I'm launching my website!

Today, I'm launching my very own website. Finally. After 2 months of spending my evenings working on it, it's finally ready.
But why did I want to have a website?
I have to admit it: exposing yourself to the public can be scary. You don't really know what's going to happen and how people are going to react. Some may say that having a personal website is pretentious, because it's obviously only about yourself. Others may not even see the point in having a website. Some may argue that putting all these personal details on the internet is risky. But to that last one, I'd respond that nowadays, there's much more information about us that's already been released to the public than we think. When I was in the process of gathering data for the different pages of my website, I realized that a great portion was already somewhere out there. So why not just make it all available in one place? 😉
In the end, as with everything else in life, you're always going to see both positive and negative reactions. If my math is correct, positive and negative comments cancel each other out, so you're left with neutral opinions. So, there's nothing to worry about here.
So, why did I do it?
Because I wanted to.
I wanted to have something that I could show someone and they would immediately have an idea of who I am and what I do in my life. People may say, "Well, send them your CV", but that's not how I see things. A CV is static, boring, and contains only a fraction of what you do in life. Oh, you've been a sales manager for 10 years at a multinational company? Great. But I still don't know who you are. You play volleyball on mondays? Cool, but what do you do during the rest of the week? That's where I see the limitations of CVs. And let's be honest, they're only used for business-related things anyway.
I also wanted to showcase what I do and what I like doing. I have uploaded some photos to instagram, but that's only a fraction of my portfolio. A website gives me the ability to show more photos, explain a few things about how I shoot, and even put a link to my Flickr page. The same goes for videos: People may have seen one or two travel videos, but do they know about my beer reviews or my freelance work? Here, I have the room and the freedom to explain it all the way I want.
Lastly, it serves as a way to gain more attention and possibly get new freelance jobs. This website gives me the ability to provide information about what I do and what I could do for someone in terms of photo, video, web design, etc. So if you're reading this and need a new photo for your CV or want to make a video about an event, get in touch with me!
Thanks for reading this and enjoy the site! 😊
